Suspensions are usually manufactured by a process where the base and suspension, or oil/wax/fat and water, are heated in order of melting points and stirred to point of homogeneity. The other process, of trituration is where finely subdivided insoluble medicaments are evenly distributed by grinding with a small amount of the base followed by dilution with gradually increasing amounts of the base. During the process, the active ingredients, colors, etc. are added before final homogenization. Later perfumes or essences may be added.
